Category:

Strip brace, also called strap brace or bracing strap, is a flat galvanised steel strap supplied in coils. It is nailed diagonally across timber wall frames, roof planes and ceilings, and tensioned, to stop the frame racking. Installers cut it to length on site.

Linkworld supplies strip brace coils in G300 Z275 galvanised steel for timber merchants, frame and truss manufacturers and hardware distributors in Australia and New Zealand. Width, thickness, coil length and hole pattern can be made to your specification, and each coil can carry your own label.

Where Strip Brace Is Used

  • Wall bracing diagonal bracing across timber stud walls
  • Roof bracing across rafters and trusses
  • Ceiling and floor bracing in timber framing
  • Tie-downs general strapping between timber members

Choosing Strip Brace

  • Width and thickness: 30 x 0.8 mm and 30 x 1.0 mm are common for walls; heavier sections are used where the bracing design calls for them.
  • Coil length: shorter coils suit retail; 30 m and 50 m coils suit frame plants and builders.
  • Coating: G300 Z275 is the usual specification in Australia and New Zealand.
  • Holes: plain strap is nailed through; pre-punched strap speeds up fixing.

Bracing layout and strap size should follow the building design, which in Australia usually refers to AS 1684 and in New Zealand to NZS 3604.

Common Purchasing Mistakes

Ordering width only. Give the thickness as well. 30 x 0.8 and 30 x 1.0 mm are different products.

Leaving out the coating. State G300 Z275 so the steel grade and zinc coating are clear.

Mixing coil lengths under one code. Give each coil length its own code and label.

Confusing strip brace with hoop iron. They look similar. State the width, thickness and use on the order.
