Hex Bolts

Metric hex bolts M6 to M48 in carbon, alloy and stainless steel, class 4.6 to 10.9, with zinc, hot-dip galvanised, black or Dacromet finish, made to standard or drawing.

Hex bolts are bolts with a six-sided head, used with a nut to join steel, timber and other parts. They are sold as part-threaded bolts, and as fully threaded hex set screws, in a range of strength classes and finishes.

Linkworld supplies metric hex bolts from M6 to M48 in carbon steel, alloy steel and stainless steel, with zinc, hot-dip galvanised, black and Dacromet finishes. They can be made to ISO, DIN or AS/NZS dimensions, or to your drawing, and we pack in bulk cartons or in your own branded packs.

Where Hex Bolts Are Used

  • Steel fabrication brackets, frames and machinery
  • Timber construction with washers and nuts in bolted timber joints
  • Trailers and vehicles chassis and body fixings
  • Farm and rural equipment gates, posts and implements
  • Plant maintenance replacement bolts for equipment

Choosing Hex Bolts

  • Part or full thread: hex bolts have a plain shank for shear joints; hex set screws are threaded to the head for clamping and tapped holes.
  • Strength class: 4.6 for general work, 8.8 for high tensile use, 10.9 for higher-strength machinery joints.
  • Finish: zinc for indoor use, hot-dip galvanised for outdoor and structural work, stainless steel for coastal or wet areas.
  • Standard: state AS/NZS, ISO or DIN so head size and thread length match your range.

Bolts for structural steel connections are a separate product to AS/NZS 1252 and should be ordered to that standard.

Common Purchasing Mistakes

Mixing bolts and set screws. Part-threaded bolts and fully threaded set screws have different uses. State which one you need.

Leaving out the strength class. A 4.6 and an 8.8 bolt look the same. Put the class on every order line and label.

Galvanised bolts with plain nuts. Hot-dip galvanised bolts need matching oversize-tapped galvanised nuts.

Ordering by DIN numbers for an AS range. Head sizes and thread lengths can differ between standards. Quote the standard your customers use.
