How to Specify a J Bolt
Give the thread diameter, overall length, thread length and the hook size (inside radius and hook length). A drawing is the clearest way to show these.
Choose hot-dip galvanised for bolts cast into concrete outdoors, zinc plated for indoor use, and stainless steel for coastal work. Anchor bolt size and embedment for structural use should follow the project design.
Common Purchasing Mistakes
Leaving out the hook size. Two J bolts with the same length can have very different hooks. Give the hook dimensions.
Short thread length. The thread must be long enough for the base plate, washer, nut and adjustment.
Zinc plated bolts cast outdoors. Use hot-dip galvanised or stainless steel for outdoor concrete.
Forgetting nuts and washers. Say at the start if you need complete sets.
